SLAI Showcases Frontier Achievements at the Guangdong Provincial AI Application Matchmaking Conference

April 29, 2026 News

On April 27, the Guangdong Provincial AI Application Matchmaking Conference was successfully held. Fanli Meng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Governor of Guangdong Province, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Hu Zhang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor, presided over the conference.SLAI participated in the exhibition, showcasing its latest frontier AI innovations. Prof. Wanli Ouyang Deputy Dean, was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the "AI+" Science and Technology Innovation Session. He provided a comprehensive overview of SLAI's achievements in core AI technology research, elite talent cultivation, and deep integration of industry-academia-research, injecting fresh momentum into the high-quality development of Guangdong's AI ecosystem.

01  Conference Overview: Bringing Together Government, Industry, Academia, and Research to Advance the AI Industry

This conference serves as a pivotal initiative for Guangdong to drive the deep integration of AI with the real economy and establish the province as a national highland for AI innovation. Utilizing a "1+5" organization model consisting of one main theme conference and five specialized matchmaking sessions, the event released key AI industry support policies and showcased benchmark application cases, providing an efficient platform for collaborative innovation across government, industry, academia, and the financial sector.

On behalf of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Guangdong Province, Governor Meng welcomed the attending entrepreneurs, scientists, investors, and innovators. He noted that AI is currently experiencing explosive global growth, which is profoundly reshaping productivity, production methods, and everyday life. Guangdong is committed to embracing AI with the utmost enthusiasm. The province aims to build a solid foundation at the foundational layer, strengthen capabilities at the technological layer, and promote ubiquitous applications at the application layer. By providing diverse products, services, and solutions, Guangdong will push for comprehensive AI adoption across all viable sectors. The province also plans to open more high-quality demonstration scenarios to support the high-quality development of the AI industry chain and promote high-level, all-domain applications across Guangdong.Governor Meng extended a warm invitation to all stakeholders to develop in Guangdong, share new opportunities, and collectively shape a bright future for the intelligent economy. He urged governments at all levels across the province, together with relevant departments and state-owned enterprises and institutions, to act as organizers and drivers of development, becoming active promoters, practical implementers, participants, pioneers, and demonstration leaders in high-level AI applications. Through every possible and feasible measure, they were encouraged to guide and expand the "AI+" initiative across society, proactively respond to enterprise needs, optimize policy support, improve AI governance systems, and strengthen resource guarantees to empower high-quality provincial development through rapid AI adoption.

02  Showcasing Research Achievements: SLAI Presents Frontier Innovations and Engages with Industry

Aligned closely with the conference's strategic priorities, SLAI showcased four major research achievements spanning frontier strategic and industry-critical areas including energy dispatch, intelligent healthcare, and AI for science and engineering, fully demonstrating SLAI's leading capabilities in frontier AI research and technology commercialization.

In collaboration with organizations including Guangdong Power Grid Corporation and CUHK-Shenzhen, SLAI developed High-Trustworthiness AI Scheduling via Multi-Agent Collaboration for Ultra-Large-Scale Power Grids. The project established the world's first provincial-level AI-driven dispatch system integrating "multi-agent collaboration + large-and-small-model coordination," achieving 100% AI penetration and 100% accuracy in human-machine collaborative decision-making. The system is capable of responding to faults within seconds during extreme weather conditions and major events to ensure reliable power supply, while coordinating source-grid-load-storage systems to improve renewable energy consumption and advance the transformation of power dispatch toward intelligent decision-making. The project received the Grand Prize at the National Finals of the China's Innovation Challenge on Artificial Intelligence Application Scene (CICAS), contributing to China's dual-carbon goals and energy security.

SLAI also partnered with Suzhou Laboratory to develop the Owl・AuraID AI Representation Platform, the industry's first hardware–software collaborative scientific embodied multi-agent system with autonomous evolutionary capabilities and no requirement for predefined tool interfaces. The platform connects critical research processes including sample manipulation, instrument control, data acquisition, and intelligent analysis, while supporting coordinated operation across a wide range of instruments such as UV-vis, PL, SEM, EDS, and CT systems. It establishes an integrated research loop from physical observation to digital interpretation, providing research institutions with secure and reliable dedicated intelligent scientific workspaces.

In the field of "AI + Healthcare," both the EndoVLA dual-stage Vision-Language-Action model and the SurgAtt-Tracker endoscopic attention-tracking model achieved major breakthroughs overcoming key industry bottlenecks. The former systematically introduces large VLA models into autonomous tracking tasks for continuum endoscopy for the first time and establishes the EndoVLA-Motion multimodal dataset, filling a major gap in endoscopic VLA data. The latter explicitly models "surgical attention" as continuous heatmaps for the first time, serving as the core intermediate representation for FoV control and significantly advancing the intelligence of minimally invasive surgery.

03  Keynote Address: Introducing SLAI's "3I" AI Talent Development Model

Prof. Wanli Ouyang was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the "AI+" Science and Technology Innovation Session, where he systematically introduced SLAI's innovative practices and strategic vision for cultivating AI talent through its distinctive "3I" educational framework.

He explained that SLAI positions itself as a core force in cultivating top-tier AI talent, guided by the "3I" framework (International, Interdisciplinary, and Industrial). By pooling top global faculty and high-quality resources from Hong Kong, Macao, and the Chinese Mainland, SLAI has established five major research centers focused on foundational AI theory, core technologies, and industrial applications. Through initiatives such as the "Deep Recommendation Program," SLAI attracts top-tier students and collaborates with leading companies including Huawei, Tencent, and Guangdong Power Grid Corporation to establish joint laboratories. These collaborations promote the implementation of key innovations in areas such as AI chip adaptation, embodied intelligence, and world models for communication networks. This "Education-Technology-Industry" trinity model aims to support China's transition from an AI technology follower to a global rule-setter.

Prof. Wanli Ouyang, Deputy Dean of SLAI, delivered the keynote address

SLAI's participation in the Guangdong Provincial AI Application Matchmaking Conference served as a comprehensive showcase of both its scientific innovation achievements and its talent cultivation system. Looking ahead, SLAI will remain rooted in Shenzhen and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area while maintaining a national and global outlook. SLAI will continue deepening its focus on foundational AI research and breakthroughs in core technologies, strengthening collaborative innovation between industry and academia, and accelerating the cultivation of top-tier talent and research results. SLAI is committed to contributing to Guangdong's "AI+" Action Plan and supporting the province's high-quality development into a global hub for AI innovation.
