Shenzhen Loop Area Institute's Innovative Achievement Wins Top Award in National AI Application Scenario Innovation Challenge
On January 25, the innovative project "Key Technologies and Applications of High-Trustworthiness AI Scheduling via Multi-Agent Collaboration for Ultra-Large-Scale Power Grids," submitted by Professor Jianwei Huang, Professor Junhua Zhao from our institute, and the Dispatch and Control Center of Guangdong Electric Power Grid Co., Ltd., won the Top Award in the 3rd National Artificial Intelligence Application Scenario Innovation Challenge. It is the only project in the "AI + Energy and Power" field to receive this top honor.

The competition was organized by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, centered on the theme "Scenario-Driven, Digital-Intelligence for a Strong Nation." It employed a three-tier format of online selection, specialized advancement, and national finals. The finals included dataset evaluation, project roadshows, and defense sessions, comprehensively assessing entries on aspects like algorithms, functionality, systems, and data. Among 3,314 projects from various industries, universities, research institutes, and enterprises across the country, this project stood out. It competed with top-tier capabilities against over 350 industry elites, gained wide recognition from experts in the AI field, and secured the Top Award. Furthermore, the project was selected as a National Typical Case of AI Application Scenarios.
Artificial intelligence is a key arena for future global competition, and scenario application provides the most fertile ground for technology implementation. Building upon the major national scientific and technological project direction of "Multi-Scenario Intelligent Unmanned Operation Systems" at Guangdong Electric Power Grid, the research groups of Professor Huang Jianwei and Professor Zhao Junhua developed an intelligent scheduling system that spans the entire "perception-decision-control" chain based on artificial intelligence. They created Moonlight, the first provincial-level AI dispatcher for large-scale power grids in China. This fully demonstrates the leading capabilities of our Institute's collaboration with Guangdong Electric Power Grid in the field of dispatch digitalization and intelligence, as well as the effectiveness of AI application.
Moving forward, the Shenzhen Loop Area Institute will jointly establish an "AI + Energy" Joint Laboratory with Guangdong Electric Power Grid Co., Ltd. and the Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. The aim is to build a national-level, entity-operated innovation platform integrating industry, academia, research, and application, leading in academic research. Responding to the national "AI +" initiative and the energy revolution strategy, the lab will focus on core areas such as digitalization and intelligence in power science, system-level digital employees, and site-level embodied intelligence. It will integrate the three parties' advantages in scenario resources, theoretical research, and technological development, deepen international cooperation and industry standard formulation, and promote technological breakthroughs, achievement translation, and innovation incubation. This will inject strong momentum into developing new quality productive forces in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and into the nation's intelligent, low-carbon energy transition. It serves as a crucial practice for the Institute to deepen industry-education integration and demonstrate its research strength and international
