Academic Collaboration, Friendship in Step | Shenzhen Loop Area Institute Successfully Concludes China-Russia Transnational Exchange

December 16, 2025 News

From December 5 to 12, the Shenzhen Loop Area Institute (SLAI) hosted a week-long transnational academic exchange. Twenty-five faculty and student representatives from prestigious Russian institutions, including Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), the Higher School of Economics (HSE), and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), gathered in the Hetao Cooperation Zone. They engaged in in-depth academic discussions and cultural exchange focused on the frontiers of artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary research.

The itinerary was intensive and diverse, balancing academic depth with practical experience. SLAI student ambassadors first helped the delegation familiarize themselves with the campus and surroundings. Subsequent corporate visits and team-building activities offered the Russian guests a direct experience of Shenzhen's dynamism in industrial innovation.

During the core academic sessions, a welcome ceremony and introductions to research centers systematically presented SLAI's research landscape and priorities. Scholars from both sides held multiple thematic seminars and group discussions. They delved into cutting-edge topics within AI, machine learning, computer graphics, and bioinformatics, such as sequential decision-making, generative modeling, physics-informed neural networks, and protein design, fostering vibrant intellectual exchange.

At the welcome ceremony, Executive Dean Zhiquan Luo delivered a speech and posed for a group photo with the delegation. The Futian District Talent Bureau provided an overview of policies supporting international talent innovation and entrepreneurship, offering a reference for future collaboration. Unique activities like a Cantonese dim sum tasting and a fun programming challenge facilitated relaxed academic networking and allowed the Russian participants to further appreciate Chinese culture.

Furthermore, the delegation visited several universities, enterprises, and research institutes in Shenzhen, broadening mutual industry perspectives and inspiring ideas for collaboration. Notably, the research interests of the Russian delegates showed strong alignment with SLAI's focus areas. Many expressed hope that this visit would serve as a starting point for establishing long-term mechanisms in joint research, project collaboration, and student exchange, laying a foundation for China-Russia synergy in AI and related fields.

This academic exchange was a concrete measure by SLAI in implementing its development philosophy of "International Vision, Interdisciplinary Innovation." By building a transnational academic platform, the Institute not only facilitated knowledge sharing in AI and interdisciplinary fields but also enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between the participants, creating a positive start for sustained cooperation. Moving forward, SLAI will continue to expand its international exchange channels, promoting more substantive cross-regional and cross-disciplinary collaborations, and consistently injecting momentum into building an open, collaborative, and inclusive innovation ecosystem.
