Biography

Shihua Gong, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Presidential Young Fellow at the School of Science and Engineering, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, with a joint appointment at the Shenzhen Loop Area Institute. He received his BS from Sun Yat-sen University and his PhD in computational mathematics from Peking University, and previously worked as a postdoctoral scholar at Pennsylvania State University and a research associate at the University of Bath. His research focuses on numerical analysis, finite element methods, domain decomposition and multigrid, high-frequency wave propagation, and fluid-structure interaction. With collaborators he established the convergence theory of overlapping domain decomposition methods for the heterogeneous Helmholtz equation, with results in Math. Comp., Numer. Math., IMA J. Numer. Anal., and SIAM J. Sci. Comput. Cooperation and applications from outstanding postdocs and students are welcome.
